The excitement and spectacle of Melbourne Ice hockey provides an ideal platform for community engagement and involvement. The Melbourne Ice Foundation supports and partners with a range of community organisations that demonstrate genuine need and measurable impact.
To date, the Foundation has operated as an internal division of the Melbourne Ice and successfully scaled its fundraising efforts to approximately $40,000 in 2025.
In a first for the AIHL, we are now establishing a separate not-for-profit organisation to further expand our philanthropic activities and welcome a broader range of stakeholders, partners, and ideas.
As a volunteer-led organisation, we are seeking to appoint an independent Board of Management to lead and grow all aspects of the Foundation, including:
We encourage 'expressions of interest' from motivated individuals within our membership and supporter base who are passionate about community impact and the future of the Melbourne Ice Foundation.
The Melbourne Ice Foundation exists to enrich lives through the power of ice and winter sports.
Established by Melbourne Ice, the Foundation is an independent not-for-profit organisation dedicated to creating opportunities for individuals and communities to participate, grow and thrive through ice hockey and other ice sports.
The Foundation supports initiatives that promote participation, inclusion, education, health, wellbeing and community development, while preserving and growing the legacy of the Melbourne Ice for future generations.
To inspire healthier, stronger and more connected communities by making ice and winter sports accessible to everyone.

We strive to deliver programs that create meaningful and measurable outcomes.
We value diversity, encourage collaboration and treat everyone with dignity.
We seek to leave the sport and our community stronger than we found it.
The Foundation will focus on six key pillars:
Introduce more people to ice hockey and ice sports.
Provide grants, scholarships and emergency assistance to players requiring financial support.
Support junior development pathways and educational opportunities.
Deliver programs that improve physical and mental health through sport.
Preserve and celebrate the history of the Melbourne Ice and Australian ice hockey.

The Melbourne Ice Foundation believes that sport changes lives.
Every dollar donated, every volunteer who contributes, every sponsor who partners with us and every supporter who attends our events helps create opportunities that extend far beyond the rink.

Canada Day [usually last weekend in June] is traditionally a big event @ Melbourne Ice. The highlight of that day is the 'Teddy Bear Toss' where supporters buy and bring teddy bears and toss them onto the ice when the first goal is scored. Alannah and Madeline collect all these teddy bears and they go into their Buddy Bags.
